Seven persons were killed and over 29 injured in a landslide in Jammu and Kashmir's Reasi district on Sunday, officials said.
Police said a large number of people were bathing under a waterfall in Sehar Baba area in Reasi when a huge rock rolled down from the top, crushing the bathers.
The landslide was triggered at around 2:30 pm in the afternoon, local reports said, adding that a major chunk of the casualty was caused at the Sehar Baba waterfall.
The Indian Army has launched a search and rescue operation. The State Disaster Response Force (SDRF) units have also been deployed, along with the personnel of the Jammu & Kashmir police.
This marks the fifth instance of a landslide in the mountain-marred state within a fortnight.
On July 5, over 250 passengers got trapped due to massive rock-felling in Poonch district.
On July 3 and 4, landslides were reported in Behramgala, which blocked the roadway connecting Poonch to the Valley. On June 29, a landslide blocked the Jammu-Srinagar Highway, leaving scores of vehicles stranded for nearly 18 hours.
