Andhra Pradesh goes to the simultaneous Lok Sabha and state assembly polls in May.

In a major setback for the ruling Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP), its legislature from Andhra Pradesh Akula Satyanarayana has sent his resignation letter to the state party president.

The BJP MLA from Rajahmundry Urban has reportedly told news agency ANI that he will also be tendering ''my resignation letter to state Assembly speaker on Monday. I will join Pawan Kalyan's Jana Sena Party''.

Andhra Pradesh goes to the simultaneous Lok Sabha and state assembly polls in May.

Satyanrayana represented Nagaram constituency of East Godavari district in the state assembly. He is likely to get the JSP ticket for the state assembly or the Lok Sabha seat as Pawan Kalyan is facing shortage of senior and credible candidates, reports said.

The BJP MLA's resignation comes at a time when the saffron party is facing a lot of opposition from the people over the failure of the centre to grant Special Category status to Andhra Pradesh.
