The Supreme Court of India on Wednesday deferred the hearing of the petition filed by former editor-in-chief of Tehelka, Tarun Tejpal against his trial in connection to the sexual assault case, news agency ANI reported.

In April, the top court had declined to stay proceedings pending against former Tehelka magazine editor-in-chief Tarun Tejpal.

Tejpal faces charges under section 354-A (sexual harassment), 354-B (assault or use of criminal force on a woman with intent to disrobe), 341 and 342 (punishment for wrongful restraint) and 376 (punishment for rape) of the Indian Penal Code (IPC).

Tejpal is allegedly accused of sexually assaulting a female employee inside an elevator of a five-star hotel in Goa in the year 2013.

He was charged with rape, sexual harassment and outraging the modesty of a woman in September 2017 by a Goa court. Tejpal was arrested in November 2013 and was released on bail after six months of imprisonment.
