BJP spokesperson Sambit Patra has called AIMIM chief Asaduddin Owaisi "neo Jinnah".

"In today's political scenario, I have no hesitation in saying that Mr Owaisi is the neo Jinnah. This tactic of instigating Muslims to break away from mainstream is a dangerous one and he is a repeat offender," Patra said.

Jinnah is often blamed in India for the country's partition into a Hindu-majority India and a Muslim-majority Pakistan.

Patra was referring to the Sunday speech in which Owaisi had said that if they wanted to keep secularism alive in India, Muslims should vote for Muslims. That way they would become a political power.

Owaisi had been speaking near Hapur in UP, where a 38-year-old man was recently lynched and a 65-year-old man thrashed, allegedly over the rumour that they were slaughtering a or cows.

Owaisi replied to Patra's comment by calling him a "bachcha" (child).

"Arre Sambit baccha hai, bacchon ke baare mein nahin bolte. Bacchon ke baap se muqabla hai hamara. Jab bade baat karte hain to bacchon ko tayein-tayein nahin karna chahiye (Sambit is a child. One does not say bad things about a child. My fight is with the father of this child. When adults talk, children should not crib)," Owaisi said.
