After 2014 things took a turn for the worse for Mitra as he was not given any organisational responsibility.

Two time Rajya Sabha MP and former BJP leader Chandan Mitra joined TMC on Saturday. In an exclusive interview to WION hours after switching sides, Mitra said he feels relaxed after leaving BJP.

As we met him at his south Kolkata residence, Mitra looked relaxed and tranquil.

"Modiji came with a huge expectation and mandate in 2014 but failed to keep his promises. Demonetisation and GST are two decisions which have hit the common man really hard. Today the common man is angry with Modi and anger of the Common man will have some effect on the ballot box in 2019,'' Mitra said.

After 2014 things took a turn for the worse for Mitra as he was not given any organisational responsibility. According to Mitra, demonetisation and GST are not the only things influenced his decision. " Religious fanaticism has increased after 2014. Lynching activities are on the rise which is destroying the social structure of the nation, he said.

No action is initiated against people involved in such activities, he said. ''That is why, of late, I was not at ease with BJP and now that I have joined TMC I feel free," he said.

Mitra feels that TMC will play a crucial role in national politics in the coming days and said Mamata Banerjee will be key to it, he said.

Mitra is expected to play an important role for TMC in the national Capital.
