Rahul Gandhi asks PM to speak up on former French president's allegations

A day after former French president Francois Hollande dropped a bombshell by telling a French journal that the Indian government proposed Anil Ambani's Reliance Defence as the India partner for the 36 Rafale jet deal, Congress president Rahul Gandhi asked the Prime Minister Narendra Modi to clarify if what the Hollande is saying is true or false.

Addressing media persons in Delhi on Saturday, Rahul Gandhi said for the first time, a former French President called Indian PM a thief.

Calling Modi corrupt, Rahul Gandhi said ' desh ka chowkidaar ' chor hai' which roughly translates into India's guard is thief. Modi often boasts that he is the guard of the nation.

''We're absolutely convinced that the Prime Minister of India is corrupt. This question is now clearly settled in the mind of the Indian people that 'desh ka chowkidaar' chor hai,'' Congress president said.

Gandhi also took a swipe at the former defence minister Manohar Parrikar.

The former Defence Minister (Manohar Parrikar) said that when the contract was changed, he didn't know about it. He was buying fish in the markets of Goa, he said.
