Prime Minister Narendra Modi tenders his resignation
Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Wednesday (Jun 5) met President Droupadi Murmu and tendered his resignation along with the Council of Ministers.
President Murmu acepted the resignation and requested PM Modi and the Union Council of Ministers to continue in office till the new Government is formed.
This is a customary move that will pave way for the dissolution of the 17th Lok Sabha, which ran from the year 2019 to 2024.
The development came after the Cabinet meeting, chaired by PM Modi, was held in New Delhi on Wednesday (Jun 5).

The Telugu Desam Party (TDP) and the Janata Dal-United (JDU), the political parties that are also dubbed as the potential "kingmakers", have reportedly given a go-ahead to the formation of the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP)-led National Democratic Alliance (NDA) government, as per news agency ANI.
Both parties are expected to submit the letters of formal support to the saffron party during a meeting of the alliance.
The meeting of the newly elected MPs of the BJP-led NDA is expected to be held on June 7 in the national capital, reported news agency ANI citing sources.
As per the sources, talks will be held around the government formation by the NDA.
The Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) witnessed unexpected Lok Sabha election results on Tuesday (Jun 4) where the saffron party failed to get a full majority, lower than what it anticipated.
As per the data released by Election Commission of India, BJP emerged victorious in 240 Lok Sabha constituencies, while Congress won 99.
This pushes the BJP into a situation where it will have to rely on the support of other parties in its coalition as it falls 32 seats short of the 272 majority mark.
The tally for the saffron party was much lower this time than what was recorded in 2019.
In 2019 Lok Sabha elections, BJP won 303 seats, whereas in 2014, the party won 282 seats.
The Congress, on the other hand, demonstrated growth as it won 99 seats as compared to 52 that it won in 2019 and 44 seats in 2014.
