Karnataka: Police lathicharge agitators protesting against Bidar rape case

The police in Bidar resorted to lathichargeafterprotestors agitating against rape and murder of a college student went out of control on Tuesday.

The protest turnedviolent as agitators started pelting stones at police in the village of Balki Taluk of Bidar, Karnataka.

Earlier, a strikewas called by Hitharakshana Vedike in Bidar following the rape incident.

According to media reports, police vehicles were damaged and several people were also injured during the agitation.

However, the situation is under control now.

All shops of Bidar remained closed on Tuesday following the strike, which received support from groups like Vishwa Hindu Parishad, Bajrang Dal, Sri Rama Sena and ABVP.

A 19-year-old girl was allegedly raped and murdered after her throat was allegedly slit by her boyfriend

The police have arrested the accused and the body has been recovered from the place where her boyfriend allegedly buried it.
