Sonia added, ANI reported sources as saying, that to counter the RSS' organisational might and financial power, the opposition has to come together in strategic alliances. And that personal ambitions should be kept aside.
A united opposition has so far had a large amount of success at beating what had been seen as an invincible BJP by pitting one single candidate against the BJP. The single candidate ensures the opposition vote is not split.
Former finance minister P Chidambaram said at the CWC meeting that the Congress party was strong in 12 states. (The Congress is currently in power in two states — Punjab and Mizoram — and in the union territory of Puducherry. It is also in power in Karnataka in alliance with the JD(S).
"We can boost our number by three times to bring it to 150 seats. In the rest of the states, alliance with regional parties (is) important," ANI quoted Chidambaram as saying.
