PM Narendra Modi wishes Russian PM Mikhail Mishustin speedy recovery from COVID-19

Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Friday wished the Prime Minister of Russia Mikhail Mishustin an early recovery from the novel coronavirus.

"My best wishes to Russian PM Mishustin for early recovery and good health. We stand with our close friend Russia in efforts to defeat the COVID-19 pandemic," Prime Minister Modi tweeted in English and Russian.

On Thursday, Russian Prime Minister Mikhail Mishustin revealed that he tested positive for coronavirus and will self-isolate to protect other cabinet members.

Speaking at a televised meeting to President Vladimir Putin, Mishustin said: "I have just learned that the test on the coronavirus I took was positive."

"I have to observe self-isolation and follow the orders of doctors. This is necessary to protect my colleagues," he said, promising to be in constant contact "on all the main issues."

First Deputy Prime Minister Andrei Belousov will temporarily perform Mishustin's duties.

The 54-year-old said that he will remain in self-isolation for the time being, but added that his cabinet will continue to operate and that he will stay in touch.
