Modi wishes Rahul a happy birthday, prays for 'his long and healthy life'

Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Tuesday extended greetings to Congress president Rahul Gandhi on his 48th birthday.

Taking to Twitter, Prime Minister Modi wished for his long and healthy life. "Birthday greetings to Congress President Shri @RahulGandhi. I pray for his long and healthy life," he tweeted.

This is Rahul's first birthday after becoming the Congress president.

Meanwhile, the Congress workers celebrated Rahul's birthday outside party's headquarters in Delhi. Posters of Rahul were also put up outside the headquarters and drums were played to celebrate his day.

Later in the day, the Congress is expected to throw a grand birthday bash for the party president.

Gandhi, who was born on 19 June, 1970, has been critical of PM Modi over an array of issues and is considered to be one of the challengers to the Prime Minister’s post in the 2019 Lok Sabha elections.

Gandhi had yesterday criticised PM Modi accusing him of turning “a blind eye to the anarchy” and causing “chaos and disorder” in Delhi. He was referring to the stalemate in Delhi where Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal as well as the BJP are staging competing sit-ins. “People of Delhi are the victims, as this drama plays out,” Gandhi said on Twitter.
