<p><strong>Parliament Session 2024 highlights:</strong> The first session of the 18th Lok Sabha began on Monday (June 24). On the first day, the oath-taking ceremony of newly-elected Members of the Indian Parliament, including the prime minister takes place.</p> <p>The first session is expected to be stormy as the opposition is likely to corner the BJP-led NDA government on the election of the Speaker on Wednesday,  discussions regarding allegations of paper leaks in NEET-UG and UGC-NET, and row over the appointment of the Pro-tem Speaker, a report by the news agency ANI said.</p> <p>President Droupadi Murmu administered the oath to BJP lawmaker Bhartruhari Mahtab as the pro-tem Speaker of the Lok Sabha. </p> <h2><strong>18th Lok Sabha session:</strong></h2> <p>This is the first session of the 18th Lok Sabha post the general elections, which saw the NDA securing 293 seats and the INDIA bloc winning 234 with the Congress holding 99 of them.</p>

This election has also become very important because for the second time after independence, the people of the country have given an opportunity to a government to serve for the third consecutive time..."

As the first day of the first session of the 18th Lok Sabha will begin soon, Congress Rajya Sabha MP Dr Syed Naseer Hussain said that there will be a constructive opposition in Parliament.

"There will be a positive beginning. Many new MPs have come. We have called all our MPs to the CPP office so that we can instruct them about parliamentary work. There will be a constructive opposition. We will raise people's issues and when it comes to the country, we will cooperate in that too...," Dr Hussain told the news agency ANI.

President Droupadi Murmu will administer the oath to BJP lawmaker Bhartruhari Mahtab as the Pro-tem Speaker of the Lok Sabha. Mahtab will then call upon Prime Minister Narendra Modi, the Leader of the Lok Sabha, to take oath as a member of the House.
