Parliament Session 2024: First session of 18th Lok Sabha begins; PM Modi, ministers take oath as MP

Rajya Sabha LoP Mallikarjun Kharge, Congress Parliamentary Party Chairperson Sonia Gandhi and party MP KC Venugopal had a brief conversation with Akhilesh Yadav, Dimple Yadav and other Samajwadi Party MPs who demonstrated at the Samvidhan Sadan with copies of the Constitution.

After PM Modi, all ministers and other members are taking oath as MP as the first session of the new Lok Sabha begins.

Prime Minister Narendra Modi says, "The people of the country have given us an opportunity for the third time. This is a great victory, a grand victory. Our responsibility increased threefold...So, I assure the countrymen that in our third tenure, we will work three times harder and we will get three-time results."

Speaking to the media ahead of the first session of the 18th session of the Lok Sabha, Prime Minister Modi said, "The world's largest election was conducted in a very grand and glorious manner... This election has also become very important because for the second time after independence, the people of the country have given an opportunity to a government to serve for the third consecutive time..."

As the first day of the first session of the 18th Lok Sabha will begin soon, Congress Rajya Sabha MP Dr Syed Naseer Hussain said that there will be a constructive opposition in Parliament.

"There will be a positive beginning. Many new MPs have come. We have called all our MPs to the CPP office so that we can instruct them about parliamentary work. There will be a constructive opposition. We will raise people's issues and when it comes to the country, we will cooperate in that too...," Dr Hussain told the news agency ANI.

Prime Minister Modi will likely address reporters on the first day of the first session of the 18th Lok Sabha.

The press conference is likely to take place at 10 am at Hans Dwar, Parliament House.

The opposition is likely to corner the BJP-led NDA government on the election of the Speaker on Wednesday, discussions regarding allegations of paper leaks in NEET-UG and UGC-NET, and row over the appointment of the pro-tem Speaker.

President Droupadi Murmu will administer the oath to BJP lawmaker Bhartruhari Mahtab as the Pro-tem Speaker of the Lok Sabha. Mahtab will then call upon Prime Minister Narendra Modi, the Leader of the Lok Sabha, to take oath as a member of the House.

The first session of the 18th Lok Sabha will start on Monday. On this day, the oath-taking ceremony of newly-elected Members of the Indian Parliament, including Prime Minister Narendra Modi will take place.
