'I want to assure the people that no citizen of India will have to leave the country,' Modi said.

Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Saturday assured that "no citizen of India will have to leave the country" if the name does not appear in the NRC list, news agency ANI reported.

"I want to assure the people that no citizen of India will have to leave the country. As per the due process, all possible opportunities will be given to get their concerns addressed," PM Modi said.

PM Modi also reacted to West Bengal Chief Minister's "bloodbath" remark noting that those who fear the loss of popular support or lack faith in themselves use such words.

"Those who have lost faith in themselves, fear the loss of popular support and lack faith in our institutions can use words like ‘civil war’, ‘bloodbath’ and ‘Desh Ke Tukde Tukde.’ Evidently, they are disconnected from the pulse of the nation," the Prime Minister added.

West Bengal CM Mamata Banerjee had stated that a "bloodbath" will take place if the NRC issue is not resolved.

Meanwhile, BJP President Amit Shah on Saturday lashed out at Banerjee for opposing the NRC draft enquiring why is she "protecting Bangladeshi infiltrators".

Congress spokesperson Pawan Khera stated that the party does not oppose the NRC draft but the way it is being implemented in Assam. He added that doing politics over NRC is going to be "very dangerous".
