
According to the Insurance Regulatory and Development Authority of India (IRDAI) vehicles without a valid 'Pollution Under Control'(PUC) certificate will not be granted an insurance.
The regulatory body has notified general insurance companies not to insure any vehicle without a valid 'pollution under control'certificate. The move came after the Supreme Court directed on the matter.
Vehicular insurance is renewed every year and it is mandatory for every vehicle owner to have a valid pollution certificate in place to comply with the prescribed emission norms.
As per the Motor Vehicles Act, any vehicle without a pollution certificate is liable to be prosecuted.
Many petrol pumps offer computerised facilities for checking pollution levels and issue pollution certificate to vehicles.
