New Delhi expresses surprise at Nepal PM Oli's 'distorted' comments on Covid surge in country due to India

Expressing "surprise" India has dismissed comments by Nepali PM KP Sharma Oli who said COVID cases have multiplied in the country due to returnees coming from.

Sources told WION, PM Oli's comments are "false and distorted" highlighting that only a small portion of Nepali nationals have returned from India, explaining "people who have gone back to Nepal have gone as per will" and "full knowledge of govt of Nepal".

Given the Nepal govt had the knowledge, given lockdown was enforced on both side of the bother, the source pointed out "once national cross the border it is the responsibility of respective govt to ensure proper quarantine as per prevailing procedure".

Sources said, "Suprised so many Nepali nationals came from other countries, including China, we have given overflight clearances, facilitated return..so singling out India....it is the same political motivation of current establishment."

Eight million Nepalese living in India and a large number of Indians living in Nepal. A number of COVID cases in Nepal have surged and this has led to large scale protest against the Oli govt.

In fact, while the New Map Amendment bill (coat of arms) was being passed in the lower house of Nepali parliament, large scale protest was taking in the national capital Kathmandu over govt's inadequate handling of the crisis.
