The heavy downpour in Mumbai since Sunday which has claimed the lives of about seven people has been recorded as the season's highest rainfall.
The poor drainage system in the city has again led to severe water logging in most parts of the city. This has disrupted the transportation in the city by halting the roads and the railways.
According to the India Meteorological Department, 250mm rainfall was recorded in parts of Mumbai and Palghar, while 230mm rainfall was recorded in Dahanu on June 24 and June 25.
The weather department has issued a warning for more rains in the state.
Meanwhile, the usual halt in the city during the monsoon season has led to a blame game between the BJP and the Shiv Sena.
The alliance partners are blaming each other for the mismanaged drainage in the city.
While the state is ruled by the BJP government, the Bombay Municipal Corporation (BMC) is headed by Shiv Sena Mayor Vishwanath Mahadeshwar.
A media report quoted Mumbai BJP Chief Ashish Shelar as saying that the Shiv Sena's claim of implementing civic projects has fallen flat due to flooding.
The Shiv Sena mayor, on the other hand, had claimed a few days ago that the city had a risk of getting flooded due to the ongoing Metro project work in Mumbai. The metro project in the city is being undertaken by the BJP.
Shiv Sena chief Uddhav Thackeray has that the city was not experiencing serious water logging as the water went off quickly. He said the city received rainfall more than Cherapunji. He further said as Mumbai is an island there were many low lying areas.
The financial capital of the country always comes to a standstill with every monsoon season.
The normal life in the city is disrupted every year with waterlogged roads and heavy traffic jams on roads and railway tracks.
