Mumbai bomb scare: Taj Hotel, airport on high alert after police receive bomb threat call

Mumbai Police said Monday (May 27) that they received a bomb threat call earlier in the day, with the caller claiming that explosives had been placedat the Taj Hotel and Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj International Airport in the city.

Following the call, the police rushed concerned authorities to the sites and carried out a search operation but nothing suspicious was found.

An FIR has been registered in the case though.

A preliminary investigation revealed the call was made from Uttar Pradesh state. Police are working to find out more details about the caller.

The Mumbai bomb scare comes as several cities in India have received similar bomb threats that later turned out to be hoaxes. Earlier on May 26, the Chennai airport director received two emails sayingbombs had been plantednear the airport and the passengers must immediately abandon the airlines and airport. After police searches,the mail was foundto be a hoax.

On May 23, two Delhi University colleges, Shri Ram College and Sri Venkateswara College, received bomb threats. On May 22, theHome Ministry in New Delhi went on high alert after the police control room there received a bomb threat call.

Moreover, lots of schools in Delhi-NCR, Gujarat, Jaipur, Uttar Pradesh, and Bengaluru have received similar bombthreatsemails in recent weeks, causing panic and chaos.
