Mumbai airport breaks its own record, handles 980 flights in a day

One of the busiest airports in the country, Mumbai airport broke its own record on Sunday after it handled 980 flights in 24 hours.

Earlier record was handling of 974 flights in December 2017.

Mumbai airport struggles with lack of space due to which several time flights are either diverted or are sent to Bengaluru and Hyderabad.

This record of Mumbai airport is being compared to London's Gatwick airport which handles 870 flights per day.

UK's Gatwick airport is the second largest airport and the most efficient single-runway airport in the world.

According to reports, Gatwick single-runway airport has handled about the capacity of 55 flights in an hour, while Mumbai has touched 52 movements in an hour.
