Mulayam Singh Yadav's son and Akhilesh Yadav's step-brother Prateek Yadav passes away under unclear circumstances: Who was he

Prateek Yadav, who was the son of late former Uttar Pradesh Chief Minister Mulayam Singh Yadav, has passed away at a civil hospital in Lucknow on Wednesday (May 13), as per news agency ANI. He was the husband of Uttar Pradesh State Women’s Commission Vice-Chairperson Aparna Yadav and step brother of Samajwadi Party chief Akhilesh Yadav. The exact cause of death is yet to be officially confirmed, and a post-mortem examination is being conducted. According to the information available, Prateek Yadav was brought to the Civil Hospital, where doctors declared him dead. As per NDTV report, Prateek Yadav had been suffering from lung-related issues for a long time and was undergoing treatment for a blood clot in his lungs. When his condition deteriorated in the morning and he stopped responding, his family members immediately rushed him to the Civil Hospital.

Issuing a statement on the incident, Uttar Pradesh Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath said that it is “heartbreaking.” In a post on X, he extended his “condolences” to the bereaved family. Samajwadi Party extended its condolences for the departed soul.

Yadav mourned the untimely demise of his step-brother Prateek Yadav, calling him a "very good body" who was always mindful about his health and fitness. The SP chief arrived at the Civil Hospital in Lucknow, where the mortal remains of Prateek Yadav have been kept for the post-mortem procedure. Speaking to the reporters, Akhilesh Yadav said, "I have seen him since childhood. It is unfortunate that he is no longer with us today. Since childhood, he has been conscious of his health and his fitness. He wanted to achieve something and go forward in life. He was a very good boy who wanted to do something through his hard work. It is a matter of great sorrow that he is no longer with us today."

Who was Prateek Yadav?

Prateek Yadav was the son of late Uttar Pradesh CM Mulayam Singh Yadav and his second wife, Sadhana Gupta. He was the half-brother of Akhilesh Yadav. His wife Aparna Yadav serves as Uttar Pradesh State Women’s Commission Vice Chairperson and is a member of BJP. Prateek was born on July 7, 1987. Mulayam Singh Yadav has previously married Malti Devi, with whom he had Akhilesh Yadav. Malti Devi passed away in 2003. Reports suggest that Mulayam Singh Yadav had kept his second marriage private for a long period before eventually publicly acknowledging it. Prateek largely stayed away from political life. According to reports, he was involved in the real estate business and was passionate about fitness and bodybuilding. He owned a gym in Lucknow named 'The Fitness Planet'.
