'The time to change this government will come soon,' former prime minister Manmohan Singh added.

Former prime minister Manmohan Singh said Monday that the "Modi government has done a number of things that were not in the interest of the nation".

He added that "the time to change this government will come soon".

He also urged the opposition to unite to save democracy in the country.

Manmohan was speaking at Delhi's Ramlila Maidan where the Congress and a number of opposition parties are protesting the recent hikes in fuel prices.

The Congress has also called for a Bharat Bandh on Monday, which has effectively shut down the country. Violence has been reported:

The nationwide strike was called over the rise in fuel prices.

On Monday, the price of petrol rose by 23 paisa in Delhi.

Petrol was selling in Delhi on Monday at Rs 80.73 a litre and diesel at Rs 72.83 a litre. Petrol in meanwhile was selling at Rs 88.12 a litre and and diesel at Rs 77.32a litre.

The price of petrol recently breached the Rs 80 mark in Delhi.
