Modi 3.0 Cabinet | Nitish Kumar's JD (U) to get two ministries, TDP seeks four: Report

The Nitish Kumar-led Janata Dal (United) will be given two ministries in Indian Prime Minister-in-waiting Narendra Modi's new cabinet, India's NDTV reported while citing sources within the party.

The name of two senior leaders - Lalan Singh and Ram Nath Thakur - has been proposed by the party, as per the report.

Lalan Singh has been elected as anMP from Munger, Bihar and Ram Nath Thakur - Bharat Ratna recipient Karpoori Thakur's son - has been a Rajya Sabha MP.

The decision regarding the cabinet was taken at a National Democratic Alliance (NDA) meeting held before the government's swearing-in ceremony on June 9.

As per the report, two cabinet berths were sought by Nitish Kumar's JD(U) after it clinched a win on 12 seats in the Lok Sabha elections in Bihar.

TDP seeks four portfolios, parliamentary speaker's post

Meanwhile, BJP's other key ally Chandrababu Naidu-led TDP has reportedly asked for four portfolios and the parliamentary speaker's post.

Kumar and Naidu became the kingmakers after the BJP failed to form a majority government after securingwin on only 240 seats.

However, the NDA coalition in total had 293 seats which ensured their victory and now President Droupadi Murmu will administer the oath of office and secrecy to Prime Minister-in-waiting Narendra Modi along with Union Council of Ministers at 7.15 pm on Sunday (June 9).

Narendra Modi met President Droupadi Murmu on June 7 and staked a claim to form the government. While speaking to the media, Modi said, “The President has appointed me as PM-designate. I assure you that the speed with which the country progressed in the previous terms, will continue to do so."
