
Mumbai Police on Monday recovered dead body of missing HDFC vice-presidentSiddharth Sanghvi from ahilly area near the Haji Malang shrine in Thane district.
The police also arrested a 20-year-old contract labourer, Raees alias Sarfaraz Shaikh,in connection with the murder.
Shaikhhas claimed to have dumped Sanghavi’s body near the Kalyan highway on the instructions of the killers, news reports suggest.
Sanghvi went missing on September 5 from his office at Kamala Mills, Lower Parel. His car was found abandoned at Koparkhairane.
There were bloodstains on the rear seat of the car and a bloodstained knife. The police team conducted a search for Sanghvi and all also scanned CCTV footage for leads.
The bloodstained knife, car and blood samples were sent for forensic examination.
“During interrogation, Shaikh admitted murdering a man at Koparkhairane. He and his accomplice had later dumped the body at an isolated location in Kalyan,” said a police officer from Navi Mumbai. “Shaikh shared details of his three accomplices after which they too were detained. Some of them know Sanghvi professionally. We are probing if Sanghvi was abducted because of professional rivalry,” said police officer.
