Maharashtra Lok Sabha Election Results 2024:In Maharashtra, the rulingthree-partyMahayuti alliance includingBJP managed to garner 17 seats, while the opposition alliance, Maharashtra Vikas Aghadi (MVA) which includes Congress bagged 30 out of the 48seats across the west Indian state.

The voting for the world’s largest election concluded on Saturday (Jun 1) after voters cast their ballots in the last and seventh phases. The results were announced on Tuesday (Jun 4).

Voting in the west Indian state of Maharashtra was held in the first five phases of the election between April 19 and May 20.

Maharashtra has the second-highest number of seats in the Lok Sabha, the lower house of the Indian parliament. Out of the 543 seats for which the election was conducted this year, Maharashtra has 48, the second-highest after Uttar Pradesh which has 80.

The Indian state has seen a major shift in alliances and parties, particularly since 2014 when the current Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP)-led NDA alliance came to power at the Centre following the general elections.

In 2022, Maharashtra witnessed a high-stakes political crisis when Shiv Sena – founded by the late Balasaheb Thackeray – member Eknath Shinde cross-voted for the BJP and later broke up the party.

Eventually, Shinde joined the ruling party and formed a BJP-Shiv Sena coalition government in Maharashtra.

Nearly all exit polls released on June 1 had showed the Opposition’s Maha Vikas Aghadi (MVA) comprising Congress, Uddhav Thackeray-led Shiv Sena (UBT), and Sharad Pawar-led NCP (Sharad Chandra Pawar) (NCP (SCP)) make substantial gains.

The state is currently led by the Mahayuti alliance comprising of BJP, Eknath Shinde-led Shiv Sena and Ajit Pawar’s NCP.
