Maharashtra Election Results 2024: Mahayuti crosses majority mark in state

On the landslide victory of Mahayuti, Maharashtra Chief Minister Eknath Shinde calls it a "record breaking victory". 

"We have seen so many elections, but the people took control of these polls. A landslide victory, people showed love towards Mahayuti. Girls, women, farmers, all showed their love and affecttion to our coalition, we bow before them," Shinde said at a joint presser with his deputies Ajit Pawar and Devendra Fadnavis.

"In the last 2 years, we have worked together for the state and took historic decisions. The work which the opposition MVA had stopped, we started again," he added. 

On Mahayuti's victory in assembly elections, Maharashtra Deputy CM Devendra Fadnavis says, "The people of Maharashtra have given us an unprecedented victory. This shows that people are with Prime Minister Narendra Modi. In line with the slogan he gave 'Ek hain toh safe hain', people from all sections and communities voted for us unitedly... This is the victory of Mahayuti, CM Eknath Shinde, Deputy CM Ajit Pawar and Ramdas Athawale, this is the victory of unity..."

Union Home Minister Amit Shah extended his congratulations to Maharashtra CM Eknath Shinde, Deputy CM Ajit Pawar, and Devendra Fadnavis on Saturday, as the Mahayuti alliance heads towards a sweeping victory in the 2024 Assembly elections.

As the Mahayuti alliance moves closer to a sweeping win in the 2024 Maharashtra Assembly elections, CM Eknath Shinde emphasised that the decision on the Chief Minister's post will be made collectively after the final results are announced on Saturday.

Thanking voters and party workers, Shinde said, “Let the final results come in… Just as we fought the elections together, all three parties will decide together who will be the CM.”

He added, “This is a landslide victory. I had said earlier that Mahayuti would achieve a thumping win. I thank all sections of society and the workers of all Mahayuti parties.”

Celebrations began at the residence of Chief Minister and Shiv Sena chief Eknath Shinde, with party workers rejoicing in the alliance's strong performance as the Mahayuti alliance seemed poised for a landslide victory in the 2024 Maharashtra Assembly elections.

BJP's Kalidas Kolambkar wins Wadala assembly constituency, leads on 125 more seats. As per official EC trends, Mahayuti is all set to form Government in the state once again, the alliance has won one seat and is leading on 218 more. 

Latest trends from the ECI show that the Mahayuti has managed a comfortable lead in over 216 seats while the MVA leads in just 52 seats.

It's election season in India as the states of Maharashtra and Jharkhand recently voted in assembly polls. The election for 288 seats in Maharashtra was held in a single phase on November 20, while Jharkhand voted in two phases- November 13 and November 20- for a total of 81 assembly seats.

The ruling Mahayuti in Maharashtra is leading in more than 140 seats while the MVA has managed to secure lead in 49 seats, latest trends from the ECI show. 

The ruling Mahayuti in Maharashtra is leading in 27 seats while the opposition MVA is leading in nine seats, trends from the Election Commission of India (ECI) show. 

Just like Jharkhand, the majority of the exit polls in Maharashtra predicted that the Mahayuti (BJP-led alliance) would emerge victorious in the western state.

But, the exit poll by Lokpoll gave Mahayuti 115-128 seats, with 37-40 per cent vote share, and predicted victory for MVA in 151-162 seats, giving them 43-46 per cent vote share. It gave others 5-14 seats with a vote share of 16-19 per cent.

"BJP will get century and Mahayuti will get double century in Maharashtra. In Jharkhand, we will get a winning half-century...," BJP leader Zafar Islam told the news agency ANI. 

The counting for all the 288 assembly seats in Maharashtra has started. The trends will be clear in the next few hours. 

In Maharashtra, the Mahayuti alliance, comprising the BJP (Bharatiya Janata Party), Shiv Sena, and NCP (Nationalist Congress Party), is engaged in a fierce contest with the MVA, which includes Congress, Shiv Sena (UBT), and NCP (SP).
 

The counting of votes in the Maharashtra assembly elections is expected to begin at 8 am local time. 

Ahead of the election result day, BJP leader Raosaheb Patil Danve said, "There is no strategy. BJP and alliance will get clear majority. We are going to form our Government...There will be no need to do anything, when we are going to get majority, why should we speak with anyone? Those who want to come with us after the formation of our majority government, can come with us..."

The elections saw a keen contest between Mahayuti and MVA. It was first assembly poll in the state after splits in Shiv Sena and NCP.

Prime Minister Narendra Modi held several rallies in Maharashtra to boost prospects of BJP and Mahayuti candidates. He strongly attacked Congress in his rallies and emphasised 'hum ek hain to safe hain' slogan.

The ruling Mahayuti is poised to retain power in Maharashtra and the NDA also having an edge to form government in Jharkhand, exit polls predicted on Wednesday as polling concluded in the two states.

Most exit polls also predicted that Maha Vikas Aghadi (MVA) would put up a strong show in polls but is unlikely to cross the majority mark in the 288-member assembly.

According to the P-Marq exit poll, the Mahayuti alliance would win 137-157 seats whereas the Maha Vikas Aghadi would get 126-147 seats and others 2-8 seats.

Maharashtra State's Chief Electoral Officer S. Chockalingam lauded the efforts of the Election Commission’s officers and staff ahead of vote counting day, highlighting the ECI's dedicated attention to the Maharashtra polls.

"The Election Commission of India focused significant attention and time on Maharashtra this time. Every strategy was carefully planned and executed with precision, leading to a substantial increase in the voter list between the Parliament elections and the current polls. Efforts were also made to simplify the voting process, particularly in places like Mumbai, where there were issues during the Parliament elections. This time, the arrangements received widespread praise," he said.
