Lok Sabha polls 2024: Mayawati says BSP to ‘carefully’ weigh into Muslim representation in upcoming elections

Once an indomitable force, the Bahujan Samaj Party (BSP) witnessed its lowest of lows this Lok Sabha elections which failed to even open its account.

The BSP that ruled the state of Uttar Pradesh for four times, demonstrated a sharp decline from its 2019performance where the party won 10 seats.

This year, it scored a zilch!

After its horrendous defeat, BSP president Mayawati on Wednesday (Jun 5) said that despite giving a "proper representation" to the Muslims in the elections, the community failed to understand the party.

She further stated that going forward the party will ponder over giving the community an electoral opportunity in the upcoming elections so that it doesn't suffer such loss.

Mayawati released a statement saying that her party will do a "deep analysis" of the defeat and will take the necessary steps in the party's interest.

Thanking the Dalit community, the Jatavs for their support in the elections, the BSP chief expressed her dissapointment towards the Muslim community.

"The Muslim community, which is an important part of the Bahujan Samaj Party, is not able to understand the BSP properly despite being given proper representation in the past elections and this time also in the Lok Sabha general elections," Mayawati said.

"So, in such a situation, the party will give them a chance in the elections after a lot of thought so that the party does not suffer a huge loss in the future like this time," she added.

The BSP had fielded 35 Muslim candidates, the maximum that any party had nominated, in this year's general elections.

She also raised objections to the polls being conducted in extreme weather conditions stating that the process may become severely exhausting for the common people and the government officials deployed on the ground for the election duty in scorching heat.
