Lok Sabha Elections 2024: West Bengal and Maharashtra stall BJP's March to 300

Despite the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP)'s extensive campaigning in the east Indian state ofWest Bengal, Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee's Trinamool Congress continues to lead in 30 Lok Sabha constituencies as the counting of votes is underway, according to the data released by the Election Commission on Tuesday (June 4).

The ECI data showed that the Trinamool Congress was leading on 30 seats, BJP on 10, Congress on 1 and CPI(M) on one seat. West Bengal has42 Lok Sabha constituencies in the 543-member Parliament.

The TMC, as per the data released by ECI at 2 pm, exhibited a powerful performance in Baharampur, Dum Dum, Jadavpur, Asansol, Birbhum, Krishnanagar, and Diamond Harbour.

TMC candidate and former cricketer Yusuf Pathan is leading with a significant margin in Baharampur, while the party's Sougata Ray and Sayani Ghosh are ahead in Dum Dum and Jadavpur constituencies, respectively.

In Asansol, actor-turned-politician Shatrughan Prasad Sinha is leading.

TMC candidates Satabdi Roy and Mahua Moitra are leading in Birbhum and Krishnanagar, respectively.

Notably, Mamata's nephew Abhishek Banerjee is leading with a staggering margin of 693,420 votes in the Diamond Harbour constituency. He has polled 1,011,196 votes till now in total.

This comes after exit polls had precited a majority for NDA in the state.

Maha Vikas Aghadi ahead in Maharashtra

In Maharashtra, the INDIA bloc is leading on 28 Lok Sabha seats, while the three-party Mahuyati alliance is ahead in 17 constituencies.

The Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) is leading on 13 seats, Congress 11, Shiv Sena (UBT) 11, NCP (shared pawar) on 6 seats, Shiv Sena (Shinde) on 5 seats, NCP on one seat, as per the Election Commission.

In Baramati, NCP candidate Supriya Sule is leading by 8689 votes while Sunetra Pawar is trailing behind.

Congress' Chavan Vasantrao Balwantrao is leading by a margin of 5372 votes against his BJP rival Chikhalikar Prataprao Govindrao.

In the 2019 Lok Sabha elections, the National Democratic Alliance won 41 seats while the UPA won 5 seats.
