Lok Sabha Elections 2024: Phase 5 voter turnout at 60.48pc, slightly down from 2019

The Election Commission of India announcedthat the voter turnout was approximately 60.48 percent in 49 constituencies across six states and two Union Territories during phase 5 of the Lok Sabha Election 2024.

This turnout was a slight downtick from the 2019 elections which saw 61.82 percent voter turnout as recorded in these constituencies.

Several Indian states voted in Phase 5 of the Lok Sabha elections on Monday (May 20).Phase 5 saw elections in eight states/UTs: Bihar, Jammu and Kashmir, Ladakh, Jharkhand, Odisha, Maharashtra, Uttar Pradesh, and West Bengal.

As of 11:30 pm, the approximate voter turnout by state was as follows - West Bengal had the highest turnout at 76.05 percent, Ladakh 69.62 percent, Odisha 69.34 percent, Jharkhand 63.07 percent, Uttar Pradesh 57.79 percent, Bihar recorded 54.85 percent, and Maharashtra 54.33 percent.

The fifth phase of the Lok Sabha electionshad the fewest seats.A total of49 seats (General-39; ST-03; SC-07) voted on the fate of 695 candidates.

Up to5:00 PM, 57.52pcof voters cast ballots in the fifth phase of the 2024 Lok Sabha elections. West Bengal had the highest polling percentage (73%), while Bombay came in last with 49.04%. The breakdown is as follows:

Bihar: 52.69pc

Jammu & Kashmir: 54.67pc

Jharkhand: 63pc

Ladakh: 67.15pc

Maharashtra: 49.04pc

Odisha: 60.72pc

Uttar Pradesh: 57.79pc

West Bengal: 73pc

The intense heat had a contribution in the lowest voting turnout of all the states on Monday during the fifth phase of the 2024 Lok Sabha elections.

Several high-profile seats were up for grabs in the fifth round of the Lok Sabha elections in2024, with several well-known ministers and personalities competing.

Rahul Gandhi (Rae Bareli, UP), Smriti Irani (Amethi, UP), Rajnath Singh (Lucknow, UP), Rohini Acharya (Saran, Bihar), Chirag Paswan (Hajipur, Bihar), Piyush Goyal (Mumbai North), Ujjwal Nikam (Mumbai North-Central), and Omar Abdullah (Baramulla, Jammu and Kashmir) were among the prominent contenders in the race on Monday.
