Counting of votes for the assembly elections in three northeastern states of Tripura, Meghalaya and Nagaland will be held today.

The counting will begin at 8 am. Results are expected by the afternoon. Tripura went to the polls on February 18. Elections in Meghalya and Nagaland were held on February 27.

In Meghalaya, the Congress Party, which has been in power for the last ten years, is expected to face a tough fight from the National People's Party (NPP) and the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP). Of the three exit polls, no one has predicted clear-cut majority for the Congress party in the 60-member Meghalaya Assembly.

In Nagaland, exit polls have predicted that the BJP and its regional partner, the National Democratic People's Party (NDPP), will win. The exit polls predict a fight to the finish between the Congress and the National People's Party in Meghalaya.
