Fuel prices continued to rise Monday, even as opposition parties called for a Bharat Bandhi across the country.
The Bharat Bandh was called by the Congress over the issue of rising fuel prices. Petrol prices in Delhi recently breached the Rs 80 mark.
On Monday, petrol was selling in Delhi at Rs 80.73 a litre — an increase of 23 paisa over Sunday— and diesel at Rs 72.83 a litre. Petrol in Mumbai meanwhile was selling at Rs 88.12 a litre and and diesel at Rs 77.32a litre.
A number of opposition parties, including the Samajwadi Party, the DMK, the NCP, and Raj Thackeray's Maharashtra Navnirman Sena, are supporting the nationwide strike.
Mamata Banerjee's Trinamool Congress however has refused to support the bandh.
