India has been on lockdown due to coronavirus since March 25 after India's Prime Minister Modi in a televised speech to the nation announced the lockdown on March 24, the lockdown was further extended till May 17 as the virus continued to spread. During his meeting with chief ministers on Monday, several state CMs had urged the Indian prime minister to be careful while taking off the lockdown measures with many states still under the coronavirus wave. The Indian prime minister during his video conference with state chief ministers had said that measures needed to be more focused now with special care to be taken so that the virus does not enter villages in India.
"Time has taught us that we must make 'local' the mantra of our lives," PM Modi said.
"Global brands that are there today were once local too but when people in the West started supporting them they became global. That is why from today, every Indian must become vocal for our local," PM Modi said.
Lockdown 4 measures will be announced before May 18, PM Modi said.
I announce a special economic package today. This will play an important role in the "Atmanirbhar Bharat Abhiyan". The package totals Rs 20 lakh crores. This is 10 per cent of India's GDP, PM Modi said.
"In a world that is fighting life and death, India's medicines today brings in new hope. With these steps, when India is being praised everywhere in the world, every Indian feels proud," PM Modi said.
"Today when the entire world is in crisis, we will have to further firm our resolve," PM Modi asserted.
"When the crisis started, not even a single PPE kit was being manufactured in India, only a few N95 masks were available. Today 2 lakh N95 masks and PPE kits are manufactured in India daily," the Indian Prime Minister said.
COVID-19 has disrupted the world economy, says PM Modi
"As a nation we are at an important crossroad, the virus has brought an opportunity for India," PM Modi said.
"Just one virus has destroyed everything," India's Prime minister Modi said.
"The world has been fighting the virus for past four months"
