West Bengal Assembly Elections Exit Poll LIVE: As the second and final phase of the West Bengal Assembly elections concluded on Wednesday (April 29), attention has now turned to whether the Trinamool Congress (TMC) will retain power or if the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) can make significant inroads. Following the Special Intensive Revision of electoral rolls, the state recorded a historic voter turnout of 91 per cent in the first phase. Exit poll results for the 2026 Assembly election are expected shortly.
According to election observers, the stakes are high for both sides. For the BJP, the contest is seen as a crucial test of whether anti-incumbency sentiment, allegations of corruption and citizenship-related issues can dent the ruling party’s stronghold. For the TMC, a victory would secure a record fourth consecutive term in office.
Historical trends suggest a steady rise for the TMC since it first came to power in 2011. The party increased its seat tally from 184 in 2011 to 215 in 2021, remaining comfortably above the 148-seat majority mark in the 294-member Assembly. While the party faced a setback in the 2019 Lok Sabha elections, when the BJP won 18 seats compared with its 22 out of 42, it regained ground in the 2024 Lok Sabha polls, securing 29 seats against the BJP’s 12, as per Election Commission data.

Zeenia AI has predicted that DMK+ may get 140-162 seats in Tamil Nadu, AIADMK+ 52-74, and others are estimated to get 13-33 seats.
According to Zeenia AI exit polls prediction, Assam estimates 80-86 seats for BJP+, 29-35 for Cong+, and 8-13 for others.
The second phase of the West Bengal assembly elections recorded a strong voter turnout of 89.99 per cent until 5 pm, according to Election Commission data,
Trinamool Congress MP Sudip Bandyopadhyay expressed confidence on Wednesday that the party would sweep all 11 Kolkata seats, repeating its 2021 performance. "The nature of security arrangements is not our concern. In the last election, the Trinamool Congress secured 11 out of 11 seats in Kolkata, and this time as well, it will win all 11 seats. If security is tight, then that is fine, we also want peaceful voting. However, I strongly condemn the way the Election Commission of India has deleted lakhs of votes," he said.
