A massive fire broke out in the early hours of Sunday morning at Bagri Market in Canning Street, news agency ANI reported. Nearly thirty fire tenders have been deployed to contain the fire.

According to reports, the fire broke out around at 2.45 am in the area, no injuries or loss of life have been reported so far.

Kolkata's Mayor, Sovan Chatterjee, described the firefighting operation as "tough" because of the number of buildings.

"The fire broke out at 2:45 am. We are trying our best but firefighting operation is tough here because of the number of buildings. No injuries have been reported," Chatterjee stated.

According to sources, the fire started out at a stall outside one of the buildings due to a short-circuit and spread to the nearby buildings. More details are awaited.
