Puducherry's Lieutenant Governor Kiran Bedi couldn't escape the troll police when she tweeted about France's jubilant FIFA World Cup win.

In her tweet, Bedi said that the people of Puducherry have won the World Cup as the place was once a French territory.

"We the Puducherrians (erstwhile French Territory) won the World Cup. Congratulations Friends. What a mixed team-all French. Sports unites," her tweet read.

Twitterati didn't bat an eye to troll Bedi, one user even asked her to take her tweet down.

"We are Indians Madam. Your publicity stunts need to stop," noted one user.

Another user tweeted out saying, "We the Indians (erstwhile English Territory) couldn't win the World Cup. Sorry Friends. What a funny tweet-all senseless. Politicians depress".

"And as Asians we should feel bad about Cro-Asians (as it is pronounced) not winning it either," read another tweet.

France on Sunday won its second FIFA World Cup title after defeating Croatia in a high-octane final at the Luzhniki Stadium in Russia.
