The body of a nunhas been found floating in a well inside a convent in Kerala's Kollam, news reports said Sunday.

The nun was identified as 55-year-old Sister Susan who taught at St Stephen's school in Kollam's Pathanapuram, about 80 kms from the state capital Thiruvananthapuram.

The reports said bloodstains were first found in Sister Susan's room at the Mount Tabor convent and then near the well. Then, her body was seen floating in the well.

The reports added that Susan had been teaching at Mount Tabor for the last 12 years.

Both the school and the convent, the reports said, are run by the Kottayam-headquartered Malankara Syrian Orthodox Church.

The cause of death remains unknown.

On Saturday meanwhile, and in a first, five nuns joined a public protest to demand the immediate arrest of a bishop who has been accused of raping a nun.

The nun had complained in June that Jalandhar Bishop Franco Mulakkal had raped her 13 times over a period of two years starting May 2014.

The nun alleged Mulakkal assaulted her at a convent in Kuruvalangadu near Kottayam.

Mulakkal has denied the charges.
