Siddaramaiah turned emotional on Thursday (May 29) as he announced that he had submitted his resignation to the Governor’s office, marking the end of his second tenure as Karnataka Chief Minister. Addressing a press conference, Siddaramaiah said he had always maintained that he would step down whenever directed by the Congress high command and had now fulfilled that commitment. Since the Governor was away and expected to return later in the night, Siddaramaiah said he submitted the resignation to the Governor’s office and expressed confidence that it would be accepted.
The veteran Congress leader thanked party leadership, including Sonia Gandhi, Rahul Gandhi and Mallikarjun Kharge, for giving him the opportunity to serve the people of Karnataka twice as Chief Minister. “I am deeply grateful to everyone who worked with me,” he said.
Reflecting on his long political journey, Siddaramaiah said he never imagined he would rise to such prominent positions after entering politics. “It was by mistake I entered politics. Nobody in my family was involved in active politics. I had never dreamt of becoming an MLA, minister or chief minister,” he remarked emotionally.
His resignation has intensified political discussions in Karnataka, with speculation growing over who will succeed him and what role the Congress leadership may assign him at the national level in the coming months.
