Lok Sabha MP Pratap Simha was taken into custody by the police when he was on his way to Hunsur,Mysore on Sunday ahead of the Hanuman Jayanthi celebrations.

When police were trying to arrest Simha at Bilikere, his vehicle reportedly hit a police barricade, However, police succeeded in the arrest and stopped him from reaching Hunsur.

The police in a statement said that the Simha and his followers had violated the prohibitory orders, posing a threat to law and order.

Biliker police have filed cases of rash driving, obstructing duty under section 353, 332 and 229 of IPC.

Police had imposed section 144 and security was also high on Saturday and Sunday because ofthe Hanuman Jayanthi and Eid-Milad celebrations.Hunsur is considered to be a communally sensitive area

The police also had to do a mild lathi charge to disperse a group in Hunsur and arrested few as a preventive measure.

Karnataka Chief Minister Siddaramaiah criticisedSimha for barging into a police barricade hesaid that "he should have respected the law of the land, driving rashly and barging into police barricades speaks volume about his culture."

"Being a Lok Sabha member, he should have respect for the law of the land. Neither the state government nor the state police banned Hanuman Jayanti, but the state police had asked the procession organisers to take a detour, which should have been respected by him. Instead, he chose to drive rashly and barged into police barricades. It speaks volumes about his culture," a daily newspaper reported.

Union Minister of state for skill Development Entrepreneurship Ananthkumar Hegde condemned the arrest he has also called for Hunsur Bandh on Monday.

According to reports, some BJP workers have alsostaged a hunger strike near the sport where he was arrested calling for his release.
