Junaid lynching: Supreme Court stays trial in Haryana court

The Supreme Court on Monday stayed the Faridabad court trial of the lynching of the young Muslim boy Junaid.

The Supreme Court has also asked the Haryana government for a detailed report.

The court also said that it would examine whether the investigation into the lynching should be handed over to the Central Bureau of Investigation or not.

Fifteen-year-old Junaid Khan had in June last year been travelling with an elder brother and friends back to his Haryana village after shopping in Delhi for Eid when a few fellow passengers asked them to vacate their seats.

A fight ensued when they refused. And Junaid ended up being stabbed to death.

The killing was possibly a hate crime since Junaid and the others were called "beef eaters"and their beards tugged before they were attacked.
