JNU blocks YouTube, news portals, allege students

The students of Jawaharlal Nehru University have accused the institute's administration of restrictingcontent from certain media organisations on YouTube and other news portals on the campus, and of restricting Wifi. Theuniversity has, however, denied it.

The JNU Students Union (JNUSU) called it a "politically motivated move" and alleged, "that all website and video links which have anti-government content have been restricted." Students demanded an inquiry into complaints that YouTube of several news websites was blocked for a day on the campus and Wi-fi being restored on Saturday night.

Students facing difficultyhave also posted a video as proof, showing content filtration on youtube with the restricteduniversity network.

However the Rector-III, RP Singh said that there is no change in the URL filtering policy of JNU.

Content related to former JNU student Kanhaiya Kumar, politicians Rahul Gandhi, Arvind Kejriwal, Mamta Banerjee and other members of opposition parties is showing no results.

"We are redirected to a page that says we are trying to access 'adult content.' We cannot even access YouTube videos of previous presidential debates at JNU", said Geeta Kumari, the president of the JNU Students's union. reported by Hindustan Times

Many students took to social media and wrote Facebook posts condemning the move by the administration.

JNU has always been the centreof student controversies in the past. Students have been voicing diverse opinions, standing up for fundamental rights and political awareness.
