Pakistani troops on Saturday resorted to fresh mortar shelling along the Line of Control in Jammu and Kashmir's Poonch district, officials said.

Defence Ministry spokesman Lieutenant Colonel Devender Anand said, "At about 5.30 p.m. today the Pakistan Army resorted to unprovoked ceasefire violation on the LoC in Poonch district."

"They used mortar shelling and firing by small arms to target Indian positions," he said, adding that our troops are retaliating effectively.

On Thursday, an Army jawan was killed as Pakistani troops shelled forward areas and Indian posts with artillery and mortar bombs along the LoC in Jammu and Kashmir's Rajouri district.
