Eight pilgrims were killed in July after terrorists opened fire on a bus which was on its way to Jammu
Lashkar-e-Taiba(LeT) terrorist Abu Ismail the alleged mastermind behind the attack on Amarnath yatrapilgrims has been killed in an encounter in Jammu and Kashmir's Nowgam district, reports said.
Director general of police(DGP) Kashmir SP Vaid said: "J&K police was after Ismail since the Amarnath attack took place. He was also involved in several other attacks."
The security forces gunned down another terrorist during the encounter atNowgam.
"In a very brief encounter both the terrorists were killed. Two AK 47s were recovered," Muneer Khan, Inspector-General of Police(IGP) Kashmir said.
On July 10, a bus carrying Amarnath yatra pilgrims was attacked by terrorists in the evening around 8:20 pm (local time) near Khanabal while it was on its way to Jammu.
According to the police, the bus was not a part of the yatra convoy which is provided elaborate security.
The terrorists first attacked a bullet-proof bunker of the police at Botengoo when the police retaliated, the terrorists fled, firing indiscriminately at the bus carrying the pilgrims.
The attack by the terrorists led to the death of eight pilgrims.
