J&K: BJP leaders protest against killing of activist, ask administration to revisit security withdrawal list

Bharatiya Janata Party leaders including state general secretary Ashok Koul held a protest in Jammu and Kashmir against the security concerns of political activists in the state whose security has been withdrawn.

Koul along with several party leaders and activists raised slogans with plea cards reading “provide security to BJP workers in Kashmir.”

The state general secretary has also written a letter to the ADGP security, law and order asking him to withdraw his security with immediate effect in protest against the removal of security to several BJP activists.

He says the security of Gul Mohammad Mir, the BJP vice president in Anantnag district of south Kashmir, was withdrawn which resulted in his killing.

“Security of Gul was withdrawn by the administration following which he became a target and after his killing some cops were sent to his home to guard who? I’ve asked DG police to send these cops to the grave of Gul now,” angry Kaul said.

However, on being asked about the role of the central government in giving directions for the withdrawal, he said the list was prepared by the administration in the state and needs to be revisited.

BJP leaders say that they are now under threat from terrorists. Koul also left his bulletproof Scorpio car provided by the administration at the city centre and hired an auto to move back.

Security of several separatists and political activities was withdrawn following directions from the centre after Pulwama suicide attack. The list included people from BJP, National Conference, PDP and other parties. All the parties had warned the administration of killings of their activists earlier.
