Jammu & Kashmir: Defence ministry rejects reports of IED blast, says 1 jawan injured in 'training-related incident'

A few hours after reports claimed that one jawan was killed and seven others left injured in an IED blast in Jammu & Kashmir's Poonch sector, the Defence Ministry issued a statement calling them factually incorrect.

"It wasn't an IED blast, but a training-related incident. no fatal casualties but one soldier seriously injured while many other suffered minor injuries in the incident that took place along Line of Control in Poonch sector," the Defence Ministry spokesperson said.

Meanwhile, Two terrorists were killed today by security forces in an encounter which ensued during a Cordon and Search Operation (CASO) in the south Kashmir district of Kulgam, official sources said.

They said troops of Rashtriya Rifles (RR), Special Operation Group (SOG) of Jammu and Kashmir police and CRPF launched a CASO at Gopalpora, Kulgam following a tip-off about the presence of terrorists.

As the cordon around the hiding terrorists was tightened, they fired at the security forces triggering an encounter in which two terrorists have been killed. The slain terrorists belonged to Hizbul Mujahideen (HM) outfit. Their exact identity is being established.
