ISRO successfully launches Gaganyaan test vehicle TV-D1

The Indian Space Research Organisation (ISRO) has successfully launched Gaganyaan Test Vehicle Development Flight Mission-1 (TV-D1 Flight Test). The test vehicle has been launched from Sriharkota Spaceport in southern Indian state of Andhra Pradesh.

The flight test vehicle abort mission was aimed a demonstrating performance of the Crew Escape system which will be part of the Gaganyaan mission. The aim was also to test safe landing in the Bay of Bengal after the launch.

Although it is a test vehicle launch, it represents a major milestone as it is a step towards India's effort to send humans into space.
