India's Uttar Pradesh gets its State Capital Region; here's what UPSCR would look like

Uttar Pradesh Governor Anandiben Patel on Friday (July 19) officially declared the establishment of the Uttar Pradesh State Capital Region (UPSCR) which covers Lucknow and its neighbouring suburbs.
The announcement was made under the authority vested in subsection (1) of Section 3 of the Uttar Pradesh State Capital Region and Other Regions Development Authority Ordinance, 2024 (UP Ordinance 4 of 2024), according to a notification issued by Additional Chief Secretary Dr Nitin Ramesh Gokarn.
What is UPSCR?
The UPSCR includes the capital city of Lucknow, covering 2,528 square kilometers, and extends to the surrounding districts of Hardoi (5,985 sq km), Sitapur (5,743 sq km), Unnao (4,558 sq km), Rae Bareli (4,609 sq km), and Barabanki (4,402 sq km). Collectively, the region spans a total area of 27,826 square kilometers.
Alongside this declaration, Governor Patel has established the Uttar Pradesh State Capital Region Development Authority.

This body will oversee the execution of development projects and manage resources effectively within the newly defined region.
The formation of the UPSCR follows a decision by the Uttar Pradesh government to develop the area surrounding Lucknow in a manner similar to the National Capital Region (NCR) of Delhi. On March 6, the state Cabinet approved the draft for this initiative and other regional development authority ordinances.
"On the lines of the National Capital Region (NCR), the State Capital Region aims to ensure planned development of the area surrounding Lucknow. Neighboring districts like Hardoi, Sitapur, Unnao, etc. will be included in it and a plan will be chalked out for their development," State Finance Minister Suresh Khanna said after a Cabinet meeting chaired by Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath.
