Indian man accused of murdering woman in Bengaluru hostel arrested

A man in India accused of killinga 24-year-old woman inside her hostel in Bengaluru has been arrested by the police, reportednews agency PTI reported on Saturday (July 27) citing the police. The suspectidentified as Abhishek was arrestedin Bhopal where he fled after committing the gruesome murder.

A video of the chilling incident went viral on social media. The police told PTI that Abhishek sneaked into the hostel (a paying guest accommodation) in Bengaluru where the victim was staying with another woman. The victimwas from the Indian state of Bihar.

The crime

On Tuesday (July 23), Abhishek was seenwalking into the corridor of the hostelholding a polythene bag. He then knocked on the door of the victim's room and dragged her out. The woman was resisting the attack but was soon overpowered by the man,who slits her throat and ran away.

Hearing the loud noise, other women in the building came out from their rooms, but could not save her. A police officer told PTI that the victim was working in a private company in Bengaluru.

What led to the murder?

A report by The Indian Express said that Abhishek was the boyfriend of the victim's roommate. He would visit the hostel and argue with his girlfriend, and the victim would often intervene, the report said.

Police told the publication that the victimurged her roommate to stop living with the accused and move with her.
