Chinese Defence Minister General Li Shangfu met his Indian counterpart Rajnath Singh in New Delhi on Thursday (April 27), a day before the SCO Defence Ministers' meeting. According to a statement issued by the Chinese defence ministers, Shangfu and Singh exhanged views on relations between India and China and their militaries.
"Gen. Li said that as major neighboring countries and important developing countries, China and India share far more common interests than differences. The two sides should view bilateral relations and each other's development from a comprehensive, long-term and strategic perspective, and jointly contribute wisdom and strength to world and regional peace and stability," the statement said.
Rajnath Singh, meanwhile categorically conveyed that development of relations between New Delhi and Beijing is premised on prevalence of peace and tranquillity at the borders.
"He (Singh) added that all issues at the LAC need to be resolved in accordance with existing bilateral agreements and commitments. He reiterated that violation of existing agreements has eroded the entire basis of bilateral relations and disengagement at the border will logically be followed with de-escalation," a statement from the Indian Defence Ministry read.
