India pledges $15 million for vaccine development in London summit

India on Thursday pledged $15 million to the international vaccine alliance GAVI during the virtual summit in London amid the coronavirus pandemic.

India's Prime MinisterModi addressed the virtual Global Vaccine Summit in London hosted by UK PM Boris Johnson in which over 50 ​countries and business leaders including UN agencies participated.

China which also took part inthe summit and pledged $20 million for the vaccinealliance GAVI.

The virtual summit aimed at raising at least $7.4 billion in funding for GAVI was also attended by billionaire philanthropist Bill Gates, whose foundation pledged $1.6 billion.

Addressing the summit, US President Trump in a recorded message to the conference, said:: "As the coronavirus has shown, there are no borders. It doesn't discriminate. It's mean, it's nasty. But we can all take care of it together... we will work hard. We will work strong."

Government pledged upto $8.8 billion for global vaccines to help immunisation programmes which was stalled due to the coronavirus pandmeic.
