India likely to sell BrahMos missile to 'friendly' nations: Nirmala Sitharaman

India is likely to sell BrahMos supersonic cruise and Akash air defence missiles to some 'friendly'countries, Union Defence Minister Nirmala Sitharaman noted at an event earlier today.

Sitharaman talked about a growing interest in Indian missile system and stated that the Indian government would want to "address" the same. She further identified the country as one of the top defence importers.

India is also interested in selling military hardware and software to "friendly" nations, however, Sitharaman did not name any specific country to carry out the deal with.

A host of countries had previously shown interest in the BrahMos which is co-developed with Russia. Under its "Act East" policy, India has been relentlessly working toward strengthening military ties with ASEAN countries.

"India is one of the top importers in defence. The time has come to change that as we are silently but steadily growing our manufacturing,"Sitharaman added.
