The Jodhpur High Court has decided to pronounce the verdict in the Asaram rape case in the Jodhpur jail.

The decision of the High Court has come in response to a plea filed by the Jodhpur police stating that Rajasthan may witness a Panchkula-like situation if he is produced in court.

Police commissioner Ashok Rathore said the forces have requested the judiciary not to pronounce the judgement in the case from the court as it may lead to clashes between the security forces and the godman's followers in the court premises reported PTI.

The police in its application also said that there would be a huge presence of Asaram's followers in the city on the judgement day, and the followers might indulge in violent protest after the pronouncement of the case.

The SC/ST court in Jodhpur will pronounce its judgement in the case on April 25.

Asaram has been lodged in the Jodhpur jail since 2013 after his arrest on August 31, 2013.

The self-styled godman is accused in a case related to the rape of a 16-year-old victim from Shahjahanpur, Uttar Pradesh.
